A group of committed baseball parents, coaches, Optimist members, and
community leaders have come together to rally around a vision to make Optimist Field in Glik Park Highland’s premier baseball facility.
Highland High School and the Highland Legion Baseball program, as well as other community teams, utilize the field at Glik Park, however their budgets do not cover ongoing improvements.
The goal of the Community Fundraising Campaign is to bring parents, local
businesses, community leaders, and park officials together in an effort to raise the funds necessary to make improvements to the field now and in the future.
With a shared vision, we can create a top-tier facility that allows players of all ages to develop their skills in a safe, functional, and fan-friendly environment.
WHO DOES THE FIELD BENEFIT?
There are many challenges with the ongoing maintenance of a top-tier baseball venue. The campaign leaders have identified many improvement projects that need to be accomplished to improve the facility for players and for fans.
In June 2018, a new 36-foot scoreboard was installed at Optimist Field in Glik Park. The size of the new board is almost double the size of the one it replaced, equipped with LED lighting and color contrast which allows easier viewing.
FUTURE PROJECTS INCLUDE:
• Upgrades to the infield playing surface
• Upgrades to the pitcher’s mound and home plate area
• Fencing at the front of the dugouts
• Improved bullpen pitching areas
• Batter’s eye in centerfield
• PA sound system
• Expanded stadium seating
• Ongoing maintenance of the Facility.
The field itself, as well as the bullpen areas of the field need improvements, including the grass and dirt surfaces, irrigation, and drainage. Currently, there is no fencing in front of the dugouts, which can be a safety issue for players. The goal is also to increase seating and provide a better experience for spectators.
With any facility such as Optimist Field, there will be an ongoing need to make improvements and maintain the venue so it remains at top-tier status.
